Most people start their day with coffee, which can be seen from a research done by Snapcart. In 2023, it was revealed that 79% of Indonesian population drinks coffee everyday. Coffee itself comes in different variations, such as latte, cappuccino, espresso, and many more. Some people also like to begin their day with a cup of tea, whether it’s white, black, green or others.
But did you know that each coffee has different mug sizes, depends on the type you’re drinking? The same goes for tea too. Of course, each coffee has their own caffeine percentages, which leads to the cup sizes being different. Tea also contains caffeine, but it is usually less than what a cup of coffee would have.
Food and Drug Administrations or the FDA have expressed that for healthy adults, 400mg of caffeine should not cause negative effects to their bodies. However this leads back to each person, as everyone has their own limits on how many caffeine that their body can take. Too many caffeine intakes would result in some side effects, such as jittery, nervousness, anxiety, and etc.
Because of that, the differences in caffeine level on each coffee results in variation of sizes. An espresso is usually enjoyed using a 2-3oz cup, as 1oz of espresso contains 63mg of caffeine. Toraja coffee is included in the arabica and robusta variation. A cup of arabica coffee, often enjoyed in a 11oz mug, usually contains around 100mg of caffeine, while robusta has around 184mg per cup. Other examples for coffee are 11-15oz for a cup of latte, 5-6oz for cappuccino, and the usual size for coffee is 8-15oz. For tea, people usually 6-7oz cup to drink them.
Aside from the sizes, materials used for a mug would also affect how your coffee would taste like. For example, ceramic or classic mugs are used to maintain your coffee to be warm or cold, depending on how you’re serving them. They are durable, don’t stain easily, and are usually used in daily lives for regular usage. Glass mugs are also frequently used, as it would not keep previous flavours. They are also great for preserving heat. But talking about maintaining heat, stainless steel mug steals the spotlight. As we know, stainless steel is perfect for sustaining heat or cold for a drink, and it stays longer than other materials. For tea, it is basically the same as coffee with an additional of clay as the material. Cups made of clay can add a unique and earthy undertone taste.
These drinks are of course best enjoyed depends on your preference, whether hot or cold, so you can adjust it to your liking. One of the famous coffee from Indonesia is Toraja coffee, as it has a distinctive characteristic that differs them from other coffee.
