There are a lot of methods to make coffee. Different kinds of techniques would result in different kinds of flavor too. You are probably more familiar with cappuccino, latte, macchiato, or even espresso. But on this occasion, we will be talking about drip coffee.
This method was first discovered in 1908 by Melitta Benz, who was a housewife from Germany. Melitta did multiple experiments using a paper filter, as she was dissatisfied with how there would be coffee dregs left after coffee has been drank. Advanced innovation was later founded by Gottlob Widmann in 1954, where Gottlob made an electric machine for drip coffees.
The process of this coffee making is done by pouring the hot water into the drip bag containing coffee powder. Usually, this kind of coffee is packaged inside a drip bag, similar to how teas are usually packaged, and different from how coffees are usually packaged, normally inside plastic packaging. Drip coffee can also be made with the Drip Coffee Maker, where you only need to put the coffee powder inside the filter, and hot water will be poured automatically by the machine.
If you want to make drip coffees manually, there are some things that you need to pay attention to, so you can achieve a satisfactory result. The first thing you would need to do is to flatten the powder to the base of the bag.
The amount of water should not be used carelessly, because if you use too much water, it will certainly affect how the coffee would taste. Usually, every 10 grams of drip bag coffee would need around 150-160ml of water per serving, you would also need to take into account on how each people have their own preferences for coffee. If you don’t want your coffee taste to be too concentrated, you can use around 185-190ml of water. Most importantly, the amount of water used should not reach 200ml, as it would make the coffee watery.
You also need to take notes on the temperature of the water. The perfect temperature would be around 80-90 degrees celsius, or around 87 degrees to be precise. The heat of water should not exceed 90 degrees celsius, as it can damage the taste of coffee. If you don’t have a thermometer, you can boil the water until it bubbles, then let it sit for around 5 minutes before you pour it into the dripping bag.
When pouring, do it consistently. Don’t be too rash, give it 25-30 seconds of interlude before pouring again. By doing this, the taste of coffee would come out and become more prominent.
